You Will Love This Twist on A Chipotle Salsa Classic

Here is a little more island inspiration for you!  Tying in some heat with the chipotle chili powder and the sourness of the lime juice with the added freshness of the lime zest.  I’m willing to bet that this salsa will leave the bowl faster than you can refill it.

Ingredients for Chipotle Lime Mango Salsa

But beware!  If you have not used chipotle chili powder before do not be fooled.  This is not your average chili powder.  This chili powder packs a large amount of heat and trust me a little bit goes a long way here.

I would highly recommend tasting the lime juice and chili powder mixture before adding, and adding a little at a time.

The right way to slice and dice a mango

For those of you out there who like me; love heat and have to add extra because over the years have killed more than half the taste buds on your tongue I would follow the recipe as is and maybe even add a little more (see note at the end of recipe for adding more heat).

Chopped Ingredients for Mango Salsa

Either way, the heat in this recipe is adjustable and the flavors are unbeatable so add the heat you need to enjoy the salsa and not burn your butt doing it!  Enjoy!

Ingredients
  1. 3 semi ripe mangoes
  2. 1 large lime
  3. 1/2 red onion
  4. 4 vine ripe tomatoes
  5. 1/2 tsp chipotle chili powder
Instructions
  1. Slice mangoes in half along the large pit in the middle, then slice each half in 3/4 inch strips, slice your knife between the flesh and skin of the mango to remove skin and preserve as much flesh as possible. Then slice flesh in 1/2 inch cubes. (follow picture shown below)
  2. Slice tomatoes in half width wise and squeeze out excess liquid, chop tomatoes into medium diced. Place cubed mango and tomatoes in large mixing bowl.
  3. Chop red onion very small but not minced, add to mixing bowl.
  4. Zest 1 large lime and add zest to mixing bowl, slice lime in half and juice one half. Place juice in a small bowl and add 1/2 tsp chipotle chili powder, mix well.
  5. Add chipotle lime juice to chopped ingredients and mix until fully incorporated. Taste, if need using remaining half of lime, juice and mix in more chipotle powder and add as needed for flavor or heat. Which will very depending on ripeness of lime.
  6. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour prior to serving. Will hold refrigerated in air tight container for up to 3 days.
