Easy Salmon Pattie Recipe

This is a great hearty and healthy dinner option.  It’s a great meal for the busy family because it doesn’t take long at all. This recipe has been handed down from my husbands family a few times now.  It’s a tradition that he remembers his step mom making.  It’s changed a bit over the years but its still a great meal with lots of flavor.

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients for Salmon Patties:

1 Can of Pink Salmon (14.75 oz)

1/8 Cup of fresh Lemon juice

1 egg

1 Cup of Parmesan gold fish

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1/4 tsp cayenne

Vegetable oil for frying.  Use enough oil to fill pan 1/2 inch.

Ingredients for Lemon butter sauce:

4 tbsp of butter

2 tbsp all purpose flour

2 lemons juiced

1/2 cup of half and half

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp pepper


Directions for preparing Salmon patties:

Heat the vegetable oil in a medium to large pan on medium/high heat.

De-bone salmon and make sure you remove all bones and skin.

Combine salmon, egg and spices.  Crush the gold fish and mix that into the salmon.  Mix all ingredients well be sure everything is evenly incorporated.

Divide into 2-3 patties the equivalent to the size of a hamburger.

Once the oil is hot place patties in the pan.  Cook salmon on each side for about 5 minutes or until golden brown.

cook the patties in the oil until golden brown, flipping once.

Remove the patties and let them sit on paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Directions for preparing  Lemon butter sauce:

Melt the butter in a medium sized heavy bottom pan on medium heat.  Once the butter has melted add flour and stir constantly.  The butter and flour will become a thick paste.  Cook for one minute to get rid of raw flour taste.

Add lemon juice stirring vigorously until entirely incorporated.  Then add the half and half and stir constantly.  once the sauce begins to thicken, within a few minutes, add the salt, pepper and sugar.  Continue stirring.  Once the sauce has thickened more turn off heat.

Serve Salmon Patties with lemon butter sauce drizzled on top and ENJOY!

Tips and Tricks:

Try using fresh caught Alaskan salmon.

Cut up a white onion and add that to the patties for extra flavor.

You can also try different flavor of gold fish or you can also use plain saltine crackers as well.

Serve over jasmine rice for a more filling meal.

Canned salmon in the US is usually wild Pacific catch, but you can find farmed salmon in a can as well.

Classified as an oily fish, salmon is considered to be healthy due to the fish’s high protein, high omega 3- fatty acids, and high vitamin D content.

The salmon has long been at the heart of the culture and livelihood of coastal dwellers. Many people of the northern Pacific shore had a ceremony to honor the first return of the year.

The Columbia River salmon population is now less than 3% of what it was when Lewis and Clarke arrived at the river.

The salmon is an important creature in several strands of celtic mythology and poetry, which often associated them with wisdom and venerability.
