Eating Styles: Onion Edition!

by · November 19th, 2012 · 5 Comments

It’s Monday, meaning it’s time for another Eating Styles poll. This week’s question is simple: do you cry when you cut up onions?

Interesting fact: apparently, all the chemicals that make onions smell like onions are held in separate compartments and only react with each other when a knife slices through and mixes them all up. That’s why plain, uncut onions don’t smell like anything. It’s also why they only make you cry when you slice through them. Does slicing onions make you cry? Vote yes or no below and explain in the comments.

Only when I cut several pounds of them for French onion soup, on a daily basis (and it’s almost daily), no.

If I think of it, I put them in the freezer for a while beforehand, which seems to help.
