Eating Styles: Sheet Cake Edition! Sam September 10, 2012 Desserts, Eating Styles 5 Comments Hey guys! It’s Monday, meaning it’s time for another Eating Styles poll. Last week we asked you about your movie theater candy preferences. This week we’re staying in the sweets category with a question from reader Mrs. L: when you eat cake, do you take a center piece or a corner piece? Choosing a center vs. a corner piece on a sheet cake is largely a question of frosting preferences, which we’ve already asked you about, but it also has to do with cake politics. If you’re eating a sheet cake, chances are you’re at some sort of public function, like a graduation party or an anniversary (unless you like to eat sheet cakes by yourself, which is cool, except you should stop reading now and go get yourself some help). Public functions mean lots of people who don’t know each other that well all competing for something they really want – delicious, delicious cake. If you’re around a lot of people you don’t know, you might be inclined not to step on anyone’s toes, which might mean taking a center piece with little frosting when what you really want is a corner piece with lots of frosting. On the other hand, you might just think, “Screw these people” and go for that one piece with the frosting flower on it. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that (although I sincerely hope you choke on that flower and die, you callous jerk). When it comes to sheet cakes, are you a center piece-eater or a corner-piece eater? Do you go for lots of frosting, or little frosting? Do you take whatever piece you want, or leave the good stuff for everyone else? There are lots of factors to consider here, so choose carefully and explain in the comments. You betcha – I’m one of those. Reply Shannon September 10th, 2012 Center piece is the one for me, because my body can’t tolerate that much sugar. Reply Eilish September 10th, 2012 I get a corner piece, medium frosting, but usually let other people get what they want, too. I’m flexible Reply Traci September 10th, 2012 I will take a corner piece if I can get one, but if I’m handed a middle piece I’ll eat that too. I love the frosting. Reply Not-So-Famous Dave September 16th, 2012 I’m polite enough to take what is handed to me and rude enough to take the corner heavily decorated red rose chunkofrostingincluding theediblefigurines if its a free choice situation.
