Eating Styles: Peanuts Edition!

My dad is a pretty healthy man, but there were always two foods that made him lose control. The first was plates of cheese, crackers and sausage. The second were in-the-shell peanuts. He would take a giant bag of them down to the TV room with him along with an empty paper grocery sack and sit there un-shelling the peanuts, eating them, and throwing the empty shells into the grocery bag.

From Jimmy Carter to Mr. Peanut to a beloved comic strip, peanuts are a major part of American iconography. My dad’s favorite style of peanuts were unquestionably the classic pictured above, but today we want to know – what’s your favorite kind of peanut?

Do you pine after sacks of classic in-the-shell peanuts hanging out in sacks around Five Guys and littering the floor at Texas Roadhouse? Or do you prefer pre-shelled peanuts in a can? How about honey roasted? Vote for your favorite style of peanut below and let us know why in the comments!

Tough call, in the end, in the shell wins out. There is something very satisfying about shelling peanuts as you go and enjoying that roasted salty goodness. Particularly with a beer. Dry roasted peanuts in the can or jar are a close second. Full disclosure, I have been known to eat peanuts shell and all. My wife thinks it is absolutely vile too.

I had to go with Other this time, because while most canned peanuts are good, I just love the Hot and Spicy ones. Not so much for peanuts in the shell.

Mark – I too eat peanuts whole, in the shell some times. When I was a teen I did it all the time, now I’ve learned to cut it back to every 6th or 7th nut. But it is a good way to make people confused at a baseball game.
