Morgan Spurlock has a new movie. But rather than lift the veil on the dangers of eating McDonald’s for 30 days straight, this one takes aim (and pokes fun) and the abundance of product placement in movies and TV shows. As such, rather than just being named “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” Spurlock nabbed a sponsor, and instead named it “POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.” The film opened in NYC and LA a couple weeks ago, and can now be seen in other parts of the country.

I myself am a HUGE pomegranate fan, drinking POM wonderful juice with some regularity and buying pomegranates whenever they are in season. So I linked up with POM Wonderful to help get the word out about the film. They’ve been kind enough to give So Good three coupons for a bottle of free pomegranate juice. For a chance to win these coupons, leave a comment telling me what you’ve heard about the movie, if you’ve seen it or what seems most interesting about it to you. You can also enter to win a bunch of prizes on their website, including a Mini-Cooper & Home Theater system.

Here’s a clip from the film in which Spurlock knocks the deceptive marketing by other juice companies offering “Pomegranate Juice” that actually contains extremely small amounts of Pomegranate juice:

In the wake of the Fast Food Bracket that this blog has made famous, I wanted to offer another alternative perspective for those So Good readers that might not be huge fans of angioplasty. I recently read a post from Fast Company that made me think about one of my favorite activities: grocery shopping. When you walk into your local store, you see a tremendous diversity of fruits and vegetables – most of which that were grown in a faraway place and flown/trucked in so that you can have access to these products year-round. Have you actually considered that most of this produce was picked long, long ago because it is not in season where you live? My guess is probably no. Fast Company references a seasonal food calendar from Eat Seasonably that I think is great. On a month by month basis, the interactive calendar shows what is in season – from blueberries to sweet corn. The philosophy here is that locally grown food is better for you, is cheaper, and has less impact on the planet – all good things. Just something to consider next time you are looking at that shiny apple from New Zealand.Â

Or conversely, KFC’s Double Down is available in 4 days… why eat veggies when you can eat a bacon sandwich with fried chicken for bread? See, there is something for everyone on this site.

I eat bananas almost on a daily basis. I am one of the believers that they are a perfect food. So, it came as quite a surprise when I recently saw a video that turned my banana world upside down.Â

Question: How do you open a banana? You peel the stem down, right? Apparently, this is not how monkeys break into this fruit – they start at the other end. Watch this:

Just mind boggling.  That said, will you convert?Â

H/T to Choosing Raw c/o This Is Life In Austin for this revelation. And to Banana Bunker, just because.

Granted, the title of this post sounds strange, but consider following excruciating choice:

Option #1: You have to eat a squishy over-ripe banana every day for the rest of your life.

Option #2: You can never eat anything that could be classified as “dessert” ever again.

Things to consider: Have you ever brought a banana to work thinking you were so swell? “Hey, look at me, I try to eat fruit once a day!” you say to yourself. Your smug feelings are soon replaced by a gag-inducing realization: YOUR BANANA HAS GONE SOFT. Like super-soft, to the point, that it is barely able to maintain its banana-form when you peel away its epidermis. And you have to eat one of theses monstrosities once a day…for the rest of your life. Now when I say eat, I mean EAT. As in straight on, just the banana. You cannot grind it up into a smoothie, chop it up and put on top of cereal, or slather it in peanut butter. You must eat it all by itself.

Unless you decide to give up dessert. No more creme brulee? Dah! It’s terrible just writing that sentence. And I can’t even put the little accent over the “e” at the end of brulee. Sad. For others, this means no more strawberry ice cream. Or cheese cake. Or this heart-rending scenario: It’s the end of another brutal day at work, and the only thing you want to do is sit down and watch your favorite episode of Magnum P.I. while clutching a pint of Haagen Daaz. Only you don’t have that option anymore. It’s just you and Tom Selleck’s mustache. Here’s the thing: there is no cheating. You may say, “Oh Cary, it’s so simple to give up sweets. No one is that weak.” What I mean is this: you can’t ever have it, EVER again. So yes, in the short term it may seem like an easy decision. But ten years down the road, when you’re still working the same job, and that same episode of Magnum P.I. comes on where Ted Danson’s character is killed by a boat propeller, YOU’LL WANT THAT ICE CREAM. Trust me.

I had to do a double-take when I first came across this device. Called the Banana Bunker, this fruit case is supposed to keep your banana free from any bruises or mistreatment that might befall it during commuting time or general banana transport. Just stick the fruit into the sleeve and it’s ready when you need it. While I am totally on board for this notion, having turned away many once-promising bananas in the past due to unsightly mushy areas discovered upon peeling, I’m not sure I, nor anyone else I know, could pull this off. Can you imagine the look on a co-worker’s face when you pulled this package out of your bag? My guess would be shock and then a prompt call to HR.

Also, for the style-conscious, it does come in a range of colors. Dig in, and report back here with stories from the field.

Also, check out a YouTube demo video – which should be rated at least PG-13.
