No, that is not a Halloween disguise or temporary tattoo on the corn flake cereal icon. Rather, in an effort to maintain its corn flake brand identity, Kellogg’s is going slightly above and beyond to set itself above second-rate flake manufacturers. The potential plan, or should I say, boondoggle, it to literally give each flake [...]

Acid Trip or Cereal Commercial?
by Eick · August 18th, 2009 · 4 Comments
Ah YouTube. Sometimes you’re just wandering around looking for hilarious videos of cats riding vacuums. But other times, you get a sense of nostalgia, and start randomly watching fast food or cereal commercials from your childhood.
Today I stumbled across a relatively new Corn Pops commercial called “Dragon Dreams.” The title was intriguing, so I gave [...]
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Cereal!
by Eick · July 16th, 2009 · 4 Comments
Ahhhhh the 80’s. That lovable time when marketers thought they could turn any movie, TV show, kids toy or video game into, you guessed it, a breakfast cereal.
Dude, I totally don’t remember this at all dude. Nor did I ever try it, so I don’t even know if it’s “most excellent.” But I am amused [...]
Dunkin’ Donuts Next Donut is….NOT sm’OREO, but Toffee For Your Coffee
by Eick · June 4th, 2009 · 5 Comments
Update: Much like the networks calling Florida for Gore/Bush too early in 2000, So Good called this one too early as well. Turns out the online voting only accounts for 30% of the decision, and 70% is determined by the judges in reaction to the “Bake-Off” that the winners do. The REAL winner of the [...]
Choose the Next Dunkin Donut
by Eick · May 18th, 2009 · 11 Comments
A couple months ago, Dunkin Donuts sent a bunch of “create your own donut” kits to bloggers to promote their new “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut” contest. Today the 12 finalists were announced:
You can vote for your favorite new doughnut on the Dunkin Donuts homepage. The page also provides up-to-the minute results showing you which donuts [...]

Cheerios is Not A Drug
by Eick · May 13th, 2009 · 7 Comments
But according to the FDA, General Mills has been marketing it as if it was a drug.
According to one news article,
Current boxes of Cheerios are touting what the company calls exciting news — the cereal’s ability to help lower cholesterol 10 percent in one month.
Ok, so there are studies showing Cheerios can lower your cholesterol [...]
Addams Family Cereal
by Eick · April 9th, 2009 · 2 Comments
Remember back when food companies thought any popular video game, TV show or movie warranted the creation of a breakfast cereal? Phew, thank god we don’t think that way anymore. Oh wait….
Also, nothing says “eat up” like a decapitated severed hand pouring you a bowl of cereal.

Nerd Cereal and….Nerd Gate!
by Eick · March 11th, 2009 · 1 Comment
It’s shocking, SHOCKING that this Nerds cereal never seemed to catch on. I mean when you eat Nerds, don’t you always think “these Nerds are delicious, but they would be even better in a bowl of milk?”
Stick around for the last few seconds of the commercial and you’ll see why someone really needs to [...]

Kellogg’s Brand Reputation Plummets After Firing Michael Phelps
by Eick · February 25th, 2009 · 4 Comments
At least according to a company called “Vanno” that tracks the brand reputations of more than 5,600 companies. They claim that the company has slipped from #9 to #83 in terms of brand reputation. If their data is in fact correct, that means that the scathing criticism and calls for a boycott coming from So [...]

I Will No Longer Eat Kellogg’s Cereal
by Eick · February 6th, 2009 · 26 Comments
Update: Unlike Kellogg’s, Subway has announced they are standing by Phelps and keeping him as their spokesperson. Bravo Subway, bravo.
Yeah that’s right, I said it. I’m going to boycott Kellogg’s. Why? Because otherwise they will think everything is just hunky dory after they fired an American HERO for doing what millions of other 23 year-olds [...]

Free Grand Slam On Denny’s
by JT · February 3rd, 2009 · 2 Comments
For those of you hankering for a couple flapjacks plus eggs, bacon and sausage, go into Denny’s today from 6am to 2pm for a free Grand Slam breakfast. If you are willing to face the lines, it is probably worth a shot.
Here is the terrible Super Bowl commercial where Denny’s let the cat out of [...]

Obama O’s & Cap’n McCain’s
by Eick · October 11th, 2008 · 4 Comments
The political food stories keep coming. From TechCrunch, I’ve learned of two limited edition cereals, created by the operators of the website AirBed & Breakfast. Obama O’s promise “hope in every bowl,” while Cap’N McCain’s offer “a maverick in every bite.” Each box costs $39, and only 500 boxes were produced of each.

How Well Do You Know Your Breakfast Cereal?
by Eick · July 21st, 2008 · 5 Comments
Slashfood has posted a fun quiz called the “Breakfast Cereal ID Quiz.” It features up close pictures of different kinds of cereal, and you need to identify what cereal you are looking at.
I scored a pretty good, but somewhat underwhelming 16 out of 20. How did you do?

Rachael Ray Strip Searched at Commercial Reshoot
by Eick · June 2nd, 2008 · 10 Comments
The posting below is from a diary at the liberal site Daily Kos by a user named JeffLieber . It’s a reaction to the news that a Dunkin Donuts ad was pulled after Michelle Malkin complained Rachael Ray was wearing a keffiyah in the commercial. I made a couple small edits to the original, but [...]

McDonald’s Southern Style Chicken Biscuit
by Eick · May 15th, 2008 · 9 Comments
This morning I headed over to McDonald’s to grab one of their free Southern Style Chicken Biscuits. I was intrigued by the idea of a chicken breakfast sandwich, having really only experienced it at Chick-fil-A before. This sandwich is basically a knock off of those.
The sandwich appeared small at first…you certainly shouldn’t expect anything of [...]
