Voting on this match-up is now closed. Surge (91%) crushes Mr. Pibb (9%) to advance to the Final Four.

Elite Eight voting in the Discontinued Foods Bracket continues! Winners will be announced Monday morning, when voting on the Final Four will begin.

Surge was Coca-Cola’s answer to Pepsi’s Mountain Dew. Despite a massive marketing campaign and high initial sales upon test market release in 1996 and national release in 1997, sales slid, and the soda was gone from cans & bottles by 2002 and fountains by 2003. So far in the tournament, Surge has rolled, crushing Sprite Remix 93%-7% and Crystal Pepsi 92%-8%.

Created in 1972, Mr. Pibb was seen as way for Coca-Cola to cut into the market share of the incredibly popular Dr. Pepper. In 2001, Pibb Xtra, was introduced, which used a different flavor formula than Mr. Pibb, which was then phased out fairly quickly. So far in the tournament, Mr. Pibb easily defeated Mtn Dew Pitch Black 66%-34% and Jolt Cola 59%-41%.

Sorry, Pibb was better than Surge. It’s a drink you could drink to just chill, while Surge made you dry hump the mattress. There seems to be a lot of people that miss humping the mattress..

I think there’s some kind of voting/poll bot in play here…and I don’t like it!

For the people doubting the legitimacy of the polls.. Surge has a facebook site with almost 12k likes… So 900 votes is not surprising at all..

Hey Justin, as the info on that link you posted explains, Pibb Xtra is a different formula/taste than Mr. Pibb was, so Mr. Pibb definitely no longer exists.
