Bourdain The Taste

Most people either love or hate Anthony Bourdain, the former chef probably best known for his TV show “No Reservations.” I have seen a few decent episodes, but I am more familiar with him through his interesting book, Kitchen Confidential – which really took me back to my days of working in restaurants.

As you likely know, Bourdain has a new show called “The Taste” – this time in the big leagues on network TV (ABC) – which seems to be a hybrid of “American Idol” and “Iron Chef.” Apparently, professional and amateur cooks alike will compete to impress the panel of “four culinary superstars” (please). A promo is below, and Eater has an “exclusive” clip from the show which premieres on January 22nd.

From the clips it seems that the real competition will be which judge tries to play the “Simon” role of crushing the contestants’ dreams. I’m sure everyone expects Bourdain to be that guy, and frankly, he’d better do something compelling. He certainly is the only panelist with any cachet.

This show doesn’t look like much to me, but I might tune in for the first episode. What do you think? Does Bourdain have the chops to carry a network reality show?

Other “Taste” clips are here (if you can bear to watch a commercial before you watch a commercial for the show).

H/t to Eater for their exclusivity and top photo.

Yes, because no one has ever heard of Nigella Lawson or her cookery book empire that outstrips Bourdain’s assets by a metric shit ton.
