It’s Monday, meaning it’s time for another Eating Styles poll. This week’s question, which comes to us from reader Not-So-Famous Dave, is similar to one we asked quite a while ago about cupcakes, but this time it’s about cake. Do you eat your cake frosting first, last, or meter it out?

Now, you might be wondering, “What’s the point of asking the same question twice?” Number one, cake and cupcakes are very different. Cupcakes are round and portion-controlled. Cake is square and the size is volatile – you might have way more frosting leftover than you can handle. Not to mention the edge pieces that pose a potentially disastrous extra wall of frosting.

But the main reason we’re asking a similar question again is because of NATIONAL CAKE DAY!!! Now get to your nearest bakery and start celebrating! (I’m picturing a cake with the words “Happy National Cake Day” on it, and I love the redundancy)

Do you eat the frosting first, or do you save it for last? Or do you meter out frosting with each bite of cake? Vote for how you eat cake frosting, So Good readers, and explain in the comments below.

There is usually too much frosting for me. I’ll eat a little bit and leave the rest on the plate.

I meter out what’s left after scraping most of it off. It’s usually too little cake, too much frosting.

i always thought i hated frosting until i tried swiss meringue buttercream. but since most cake is not made with that i tend to just scrape it off and give it to someone else/throw it away.

I would like all you “too much frosting” folks to call me next time you are invited to a wedding, a shower, a funeral luncheon…anywhere they’re serving cake. I will happily follow you through the serving line and take all y’alls frosting!
