Sometimes I’ll go weeks where there’s nary a blip of excitement that registers on my new food product radar. The merciful flip side to this coin is being treated to few days in which someone seemingly stuffs a pinata full of test market runs, junk food spin-offs and general edible WTF’ery and has at it with a baseball bat, much to the salivating glee of food bloggers, stoners & pregnant women alike.

This week was a tasty tsunami my friends.

Wendy’s Waffles, Offers New Frosty Delivery System

The internet was ablaze this week after my favorite Fast Food Ginger started rolling out a soft launch for a waffle cone Frosty in select North American locations. Already a hit in Australia, this new concept maintains portability, while still offering easy access for french fry dipping.

Your Pancake Says “Make It Bacon!”

Smucker’s, traditionally known for it’s delicious jams, jellies & the enigmatic Goober line, has hitched its breakfast wagon onto that seemingly unstoppable bacon horse (mmm, bacon horse) with their new maple bacon syrup. And while the ingredients don’t list maple or bacon, we should thank our food scientists for making this dream a much needed reality.

Dewly Noted: Extreme Gets Crafty

A new Malt flavored Dew is getting a limited release in select cities as PepsiCo is banking on the growing trend of consumers embracing small craft beer batches somehow translating into sales of this regionally rolled out Dew. A PepsiCo spokesperson is quick to point out that “While the American market for malt soda is not really strong it is very popular in Latin America and the Middle East which shows it may get some traction in the US.” The real test is seeing how long it takes before it makes an appearance on Toddlers & Tiaras.

Cinnabon Attempting To Rule Mall Food Courts?

Not content with only owning one segment of the lucrative Mall Food Court market, Cinnabon has begun testing this  savory spin in hopes it will help secure increased foot traffic from shambling shoppers looking for subsistence that won’t induce sugar shock. No huge bells & whistles (marinara sauce, mozzarella & pepperoni) but it will utilize the already infamously addictive Cinnabon dough.

Krispy Kreme State Fair Fun, Without The Carnies

Eating too many of these State Fair inspired treats from Krispy Kreme could easily recreate the sensation your stomach gets while riding the Tilt-a-Whirl one time too many. Now you can skip the vertigo & questionable corn dogs and indulge in both Cotton Candy & Caramel Apple Cake donuts in the safety of your own home.

The Church of Salty & Sweet Has A New Messiah

The Sugar Cube in Portland Oregon offers up a sinfully decadent waltz of sweet & salty with the “CCPC”, short for Chocolate Caramel Potato Chip Cupcake. A chocolate buttermilk cupcake is dipped in a bittersweet chocolate ganache, then adorned with Ruffles potato chips before being drizzled with homemade salted caramel. Good enough for the owner to coin the term”potatochococaramelgasm”.

 Cheese Ahoy!

Over at “The Cupcake Project” the “Chocolate Chip Cookie Grilled Cheese Sandwich” has instantly become a viral hit featuring this unlikely pairing. Think of it as  “Thelma & Louise” for your taste buds. Except substitute the Grand Canyon with your mouth. Heck Dr. Seuss wrote an entire book about taking chances on sketchy, unimaginably edible concoctions.

The cheese on the cookies is actually Pave du Nord Herve Mons, as stated in the linked blog post. 😉

Still looks gross to me though.
