Update: Voting on these match-ups is now closed. Tostitos (85%) defeats Smartfood (15%), Bugles (52%) barely edges Cracker Jacks (48%), Rold Gold (54%) beats Cheez Doodles (46%) by a nose, Chex Mix (81%) crushes Stacy’s (19%).

We kicked off the first three days of Snack Madness voting in the Potato Chip, Cookie and Cracker brackets. Over the next five days we’ll finish voting on the other first round match-ups in those brackets, as well as in the bracket we kick off today, the Miscellaneous snacks bracket. This includes snacks that aren’t potato chips, crackers or cookies, but nevertheless are salty, delicious snacks – think corn chips, tortilla chips, pretzels etc. If you aren’t hip yet to Snack Madness, read our intro post here, and click the bracket below to see our seeds and contenders.

Today’s match-ups are:

I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t have a bag of Tostitos in their house at some point, so they look to be a very strong #1 seed. Crackers Jacks (8) and Bugles (9) presents a very intriguing first round match-up of two fairly high name recognition brands. Rold Gold (5) has a wide line of various types of preztels and snack mixes, but can the simplicity of Cheez Doodles give them a run for their money? Stacey’s (13) makers of pita and other types of chips has a loyal following, but can they put a scare in the popular and ubiquitous Chex Mix (4)?

If bugles lose to the awful excuse for a snack that is is today’s cracker jack it will just be criminal. Years ago cracker jack had a shot but now it is just awful, 3 peanuts, a terrible toy and all the corn syrup you can stomach on top of stale popcorn.
