Update 3: This is absolute madness. It’s now 24 hours since the polls closed, and it appears all the votes have been tallied, and with more than 8,500 votes cast, someway, somehow, we ended up with an exact tie. 4,267 votes for both Sonic and DQ. UNREAL. I’m calling this one. I’m sure all the votes have been tallied at this point, but even if a few somehow trickle in from a slow poll counter, it’s been 24 hours, and this needs to be decided.  We’re in uncharted territory here folks, and I’m not quite sure what to do. A re-match or re-vote? Sure, I could do that, but clearly these guys are evenly matched. In the interest of givng both DQ and Sonic a shot at the title, we’re gonna have to get a little crazy to respond to a crazy situation. Therefore, starting on Monday morning, the final will be a THREE fast food chain vote to determine the champion: Sonic vs. Dairy Queen vs. Wendy’s (who defeated Arby’s 57% – 43%).  Probably a little bit of a raw deal for Wendy’s who now has to face 2 competitors instead of one, but hey, DQ and Sonic have both proven their strength and I’m not sure of any other way to handle this.

Update 2: Voting has been closed since 1 pm, but in the interest of playing it safe and avoiding a 2000 Florida type debacle, I’m going to wait until tomorrow to call this match-up to make sure the overwhelmed polling application is able to tally any lingering votes it may have been delayed on counting.

Update: It appears all the votes have finally been tallied, so I’m calling this one.  Boy was that DQ vs. Sonic match-up close!

  • Dairy Queen (50.01%) defeats Sonic (49.99%) by just 3 votes out of more than 8,000!
  • Wendy’s (57%) defeats Arby’s (43%)

Dairy Queen and Wendy’s will face off for the Fast Food crown with voting to begin on Monday.

Today we begin voting on our Final Four match-ups, to help determine who will face-off in the championship and be crowned the greatest fast food chain in America.

Today’s match-ups: #4 Dairy Queen vs. #3 Sonic and #3 Arby’s vs. #1 Wendy’s.  Click the bracket below to see how we got to where we are today.

Voting will be open until 1 pm FRIDAY. (Update: Readers can vote on the final four match-ups once every 12 hours, so vote early and vote often!)

    Sonic sucks! I can’t believe they’d even be nominated. There really isn’t much there worth even thinking about eating. And Arby’s is waaaaayyyy better than Wendy’s!

    No way! Sonic’s shakes are so gross that they are changing their recipe. Nothing, on the other hand, comes close to a tasty BLIZZARD!!
    (And, for the other vote, no way Arby’s curly fries can touch the delicious combo of a Frostie and fries from Wendy’s!)

    I ate at Sonic not to long ago and tried one of their new Angus burgers… Needless to say I called them and this is exactly what I said, “I don’t know if you changed where you get your meat but that was the nastiest burger I ever ate in my life.” I could not even finish that burger it was so nasty! The lady on the other end was surprised. Needless to say you will not get me to eat a burger from there ever again!

    BTW – I love the Chicken Strip Basket!

    Sorry, I had to go with Sonic on this one. I haven’t lived in a town yet that can keep a DQ open as long as a Sonic, and there has to be some reason for it. DQ has great ice cream, because they use a different mix than Sonic, but I love the burgers, pickle-o’s, and drinks you can get at the Sonic! I just wish they had more of them in the Pacific Northwest!

    Yeah DQ might have better shakes (aka blizzards), but it’s a fast FOOD bracket. And by no means will you ever catch me anywhere near DQ food. Sonic’s way better overall.

    I went to Sonic the other day, and they charged me 25 cents for a lousy cup of water. Which was in a styrofoam cup, no less. I really resent paying for what should be free. It was only for my dog!!

    Wendy’s?!!!?? To begin with they mayo on there hamburgers. Sick. Next all they have for hot sauce is CHILI SEASONING PACKETS, huh? The chicken wings are over rated and not good and not hot.

    I can’t believe Sonic is down by that much over DQ I can’t pass a Sonic without stoppin and getting a burger and tots and the corn dogs taste jut like the fair’s I love sonic and can’t wait til one is closer to me right now the closest is over an hour away. I have like 3 DQ’s in a 30min radius and I don’t care for it unless I want ice cream it over priced and the moms and pops ice cream shops are better anyway.

    well i have to say i enjoyed sonic when i was in myrtle beach…..but since we will never get a sonic ..because of weather…..i have to vote DQ..we have 3 in our city of niagara falls…and i pass 3 and when it comes to wendys…cant beat them…..salads

    DQ vs Sonic? Really? DQ is SOO much better on any given day.
    Now, Arbys vs Wendys – a closer race, but Wendys gets it hands down because their food is consistently fresher, better tasting and (around here anywhere) wendys just seems to have cleaner and happier employees.
    I can’t wait for the championship!

    DQ reeses peanut butter cup blizzard is the best with Wendys frosty a close second. DQ’s chicken basket is great while Wendy’s salads are the best for any fast food place around!

    The DQ Grill ‘N Chill is good, but the regular DQ restaurants have such slooow service, & their food is not that good. Wendy’s Frosty’s are the best! But both the DQ & Wendy’s don’t keep their restaurants very clean 🙁 I have not been to a Sonic since I Went to Disneyland 34 years ago, but I remember it was very good! I plan to visit one as soon as I can. I’m glad they’re bringing back the roller skating wait people! To me, it’s not really a “drive-in” w/o them 🙂
