The Fire Wire has alerted me to an awesome new product available on the always hilarious site Archie McPhee.  I’m talking of course about the “Hot Dog Hideaway” a.k.a. the “Build-it-Yourself Meat House Kit.”

Hot Dog Hideaway

So what’s the deal with this meat monstrosity? Archie McPhee describes what you get for your $79.95 investment:

Our bestselling Hot Dog Hideaway kit comes with enough cured deli slices and kosher dogs (Over 10 pounds!) to make a veritable McMansion of meat! Just follow the included blueprints and use the pate spackle to join it together and smooth over the rough edges. Not only will you get the complete Hot Dog Hideaway, but also a set of meat landscaping materials to make pimento loaf trees and meatball bushes.

Yummy. My favorite part of the description?

Note: This kit will only remain edible for three weeks without refrigeration.

ONLY three weeks? ONLY? We are talking about 10 pounds of meat here.  Shouldn’t the shelf life be even less than that?

Yikes. The juxtaposition of the name “Hot Dog Hideaway” with the kid makes me INSANELY uncomfortable.

That being said, the pimento loaf trees are a nice touch.

I was a little disturbed by the “Hot Dog Hideaway” name as well.

I don’t know if I’m bothered by that or the three week shelf life more though.
