Doughnut

Unbeknownst to me until a short time ago, National Doughnut Day is tomorrow, June 5.  In celebration of this holiday and people getting fatter, the two titans of the industry, Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme, are giving away a free doughnut to all customers.  The only difference is that you have to buy something to drink to get your freebie from DD.  Freeloaders, start forming those lines!  It has always amazed me what people will do for free food – in this case wait for possibly hours for a $3 item. Ahh, America.

It also begs the question – if you had to go to one place – which would it be, Dunkin’ or KK?  Make your case in the comments.

H/t to Pop Candy for the tip.  And who can forget this?

For what it’s worth, the Fractured Prune is also giving away donuts…but only their “Ocean City Sand Donuts”, whatever those are.

I’ll do Claudia one better: Krispy Kreme, but because there isn’t one near me, forget it. I don’t even want a free DD doughnut.

Tim Horton’s BABY (Yeah I’m Canadian) but I’d never line up for free stuff, it feels all to Pavlovian and cheap. I’ve always mocked the masses for the reactions they have to seeing money thrown at them or people freaking out at WalFarts like the low prices are gonna end in 30 seconds, I won’t permit myself to fall prey to it, to much pride.

I’m with you, DAVE ID. I feel cheap standing in line for a free item that would normally cost me a few dollars. I can understand why some people do it though. If I were flat broke and struggling to feed myself, I might take advantage of it.

Anyway, the closest DD or KK to me is about a half hours drive away. No thanks.

Wait, are people actually complaining about free food? As if you’re above the notion of satisfying one of mankind’s basic necessities (shelter, water, clothing, giant wads of fried dough)…

Doesn’t Krispy Kreme already give away free doughnuts everyday? When ever you walk into the one near me and the “hot” light is on (meaning they are currently making them) first thing they do is hand you one fresh out of the frier doughnut.

    Dunkin’ Donuts.
And I love free stuff, stupid gimmick or not. I was on my way back from class remembered this post, and started making my way to the Dunkin’ Donuts near my house, and as I go the skies open up and I ride a mile on a bike to get there (then barely a hundred yards to my house). I must say that doughnut is all the sweeter for being free let alone involving a mile ride through the rain.
