Mmmm…Estonian Ground Chicken

by · October 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

My friend Cary has recently brought to my attention a treasure trove of old (60′s, 70′s, 80′s) TV commercials from Russia and Estonian. The ads have varying levels of absurdity. This one below, I actually first saw on Serious Eats back in March. The ad is for kana-hakkliha otherwise known as minced/ground chicken meat. Weird, [...]

Would You Rather? Nuts vs. Berries

by · October 15th, 2008 · 13 Comments

For the last 6 months I have made a shockingly awful decision. Would You Rather? questions were one of the staples of So Good when it first started, and I have allowed the tradition to disappear. Well today, it’s back, and hopefully as a once-a-week feature. For those of you new to the fun, you [...]

I Try It So You Don’t Have To: Hamburger Helper Microwave Singles

by · October 15th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I ate a lot of Hamburger Helper as a kid. Much like I vowed to never drink Mike’s Hard Lemonade after the age of 21, I have sworn off Hamburger Helper in adulthood. I just don’t really see a reason for it to pass my precious lips. It is weird, synthetic, and frankly, that talking [...]

Bacon is Meat Candy

by · October 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments

That’s the slogan for the website Bacon Freak, lovers of bacon and purveyors of a gourmet Bacon of the Month club. Recently, I was contacted by Rocco, over at Bacon Freak, who asked if I would be interested in trying some of their premium bacon. Needless to say, after a quick peek at some of [...]

Nando’s Has Really Plump (Chicken) Breasts

by · October 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I was first told about Nando’s Peri-Peri chicken from a British friend of mine who has been raving to me about it ever since I met him. About a month ago, I finally had a chance to check out their new restaurant in Chinatown here in DC. My verdict? Delicious. The chicken was incredible, and [...]

Obama O’s & Cap’n McCain’s

by · October 11th, 2008 · 4 Comments

The political food stories keep coming.  From TechCrunch, I’ve learned of two limited edition cereals, created by the operators of the website AirBed & Breakfast.  Obama O’s promise “hope in every bowl,” while Cap’N McCain’s offer “a maverick in every bite.”  Each box costs $39, and only 500 boxes were produced of each.

Sarah Palin’s Mooseburger Helper

by · October 10th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I have previously written about the questionable taste and not-so-subtle racism of a product called Obama Waffles.  Well now, from the creators of Obama Waffles, comes Sarah’s Kickin’ Mooseburger Helper. The website describes the product as such: Each box of MOOSEBURGER HELPER contains snowflake and real moose-shaped pasta and a delicious Wisconsin cheddar cheese sauce. [...]

One Year of Free Mountain Dew?

by · October 10th, 2008 · No Comments

How many Mountain Dew’s would that be exactly? I’m guessing somewhere between 1 and 1,460 depending on your passion for the beverage. Why am I speculating how much a year’s supply of the Dew is? Well because that’s one of the prizes Mountain Dew is offering for their contest for the best idea for a [...]
