Recipe of the Week: Herb Bagel Chips

Hey everyone! It’s Hillary again, from Chew on That. I don’t know about you, but I’m not usually much of a snacker. It’s not the act of snacking I don’t like, it’s the typical food we associate with snacks. Like, for instance, popcorn. I don’t mind popcorn but I’d much rather fill up on a chicken sandwich or a slice of pizza. Or, what about pretzels? Pretzels just take up unnecessary room that can be used for meal-like food. Don’t you think?

But I have to say, though few and far between, there are some snack foods I do eat and enjoy. Like for instance, bagel chips! How good are bagel chips? Maybe it’s because they’re made from bagels and bagels remind me of real food or maybe they remind me of my other obsession: pita chips, but whatever it is, I approve. So I thought I’d share a recipe so that you guys can make your own bagel chips! It wasn’t always the case that bagel chips were mass produced, so let’s return to the days of old and make our own. Enjoy!

Herb Bagel Chips

Paprika, oregano, garlic powder and basil mix together for this savory snack.

Ingredients

3 bagels, sliced into thin slices
3 Tbs. margarine or butter, melted
1 tsp. ground black pepper
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut each thin bagel slice into four pieces. Place the bagel pieces on a cookie sheet. In a small bowl mix the black pepper, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, and basil with the melted butter. Brush the butter mixture on the bagel pieces. Bake for 5 minutes, turn over the bagel chips and bake another 5 minutes or until crispy.
