This morning I headed over to McDonald’s to grab one of their free Southern Style Chicken Biscuits.  I was intrigued by the idea of a chicken breakfast sandwich, having really only experienced it at Chick-fil-A before. This sandwich is basically a knock off of those.

The sandwich appeared small at first…you certainly shouldn’t expect anything of burger width.  It was thick but very small around.  The biscuit was decent – I imagine it’s the same biscuits they use for their other breakfast sandwiches.  The chicken was actually a surprisingly tasty piece of meat – piping hot, tender and very light & fluffy.  The “southern style” flavor seemed to consist of a bit of spices in the breading. It was just enough to give it a mild kick but not super noticeable.

The sandwich really didn’t convey a “breakfast” flavor of any kind, despite being on a biscuit, and the fact that their are no condiments or toppings on it makes it taste kind of plain (I elected to dip mine in honey).  If you are intrigued by the idea of trying a chicken breakfast sandwich, give it a shot.  I buy fast food breakfast about 4 times a year, so I’m not going to be the one driving sales of this product, but hey, if you like it, maybe you could be.

the chicken sandwich was okay. nothing great. seemed a little paltry, serving wise. i remember the mcdonald’s near my office (on one of those similar 4 times a year fast food breakfast trips) having a chicken biscuit on the dollar menu at breakfast. maybe it was a field test.

I tried both today and was quite impressed. I thought that they would be cheap versions of the same Chick-Fil-A products, but found them almost identical. McDonald’s did well with this one.

Both of the sandwiches were hot and steamy, with crisp, yet flavorful chicken. The biscuit was flaky and the bread bun on the sandwich was soft. The simplicity of Chick-Fil-A’s sandwiches and quality of their chicken kept me returning, but now with this cheaper and almost identical product, I may have been converted.

I rarely have fast food breakfast but I wouldn’t hesitate to grab another biscuit if i’m in a rush to class one day. 😉

obviously you are not from anywhere NEAR the south because you are so surprised by chicken for breakfast. Chicken biscuits have been around for a very long time, I have fond memories of eating them fro breakfast, they are great as leftovers from a fried chicken and biscuit dinner the night before. And I’m not even from the south! But yes, it was tasty!

I tried this the other week with the sweet tea. I think I’m just not into Southern food. They seem to have done a good job, but I couldn’t get through the whole thing, it just tasted too buttery for me.

It is sooooooooooooooooooooo GOOD! I have been craving them ever since I got the free one…I am going to blog about it as well. Southern or not, it leaves me wanting to eat breakfast every morning (which I don’t normally like to do except for my cup of coffee)

I went to McDonalds this morning and I was disappointed when they told me that they are no longer offering the southern chicken sandwich for breakfast. That was truly an awesome breakfast sandwich, could of had more on it besides the chicken, I usually ordered mine with cheese. Such a shame they are stopping it, it was truly a great sandwich.

They stopped offering them about a year ago in the northeast to my disappointment…. the only breakfast choices around here are pretty much PORK. 🙁
