Kraft Bagel-fuls: A First Look

With some unanswered questions about the new Kraft Bagel-fuls (bagels pre-filled with cream cheese) floating around the internet, I decided to contact the Kraft corporate headquarters in an effort to clear up any confusion and help us foodies get the full facts on this interesting new product. In addition to being extremely helpful in addressing my questions, they also released to me a sneak peek at the packaging for the new product:

Kraft will have five different varieties of Bagel-fuls, which I would guess means each is filled with a different flavor of their signature cream cheese brand, Philadelphia cream cheese. Kraft sees this product as a great way to appeal to consumers who are “on the go.” They are also designed to be a healthy breakfast choice, with each bagel stick having only 200 calories and 6 grams of fat or less.

Regarding the much debated heating strategy, Kraft reports that the recommended method is toasting, but they could also be microwaved or even eaten cold. The product is designed so that the cream cheese will stay cool even after long periods of heating.

So what of the questions/controversy over whether someone else besides Kraft holds the patent for this product? For this venture Kraft has partnered with a smaller company who designed a pre-filled bagel product – so all the necessary contractual arrangements are in place for it to hit the national market. Unsurprisingly, the details of this arrangement are confidential, but the packaging and product design appear similar to the Bagel-ers product that I have previously written about, so perhaps that is the company they have partnered with? I have nothing to confirm or deny this, just speculating.

Kraft has also been kind enough to offer to send me a sample of this product before it hits the market, so I will be sure to share more information with my readers once I have sampled them!
