Hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving. Two things I want to note:

1. The Thanksgiving Would You Rather, asking if you would give up Turkey and Cranberry OR stuffing and mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving Day has been razor tight, and currently is deadlocked at 20 votes to 20 votes!

2 . In my last post on Thanksgiving morning, I promised some lovely photos of the Thanksgiving meal I was preparing. Heh, heh, er, so let me just say this, when you start drinking wine, beer and vodka/amaretto punch at 1 PM, you pretty quickly forget that A) You run a food blog, B) You own a camera and C) You are supposed to use that camera to help improve your food blog. Whoops. So alas, I must regal you with verbal, not visual, tales of my Thanksgiving.

I hosted Thanksgiving this year at my apartment in Washington, DC, with 5 friends joining me for the day. I haven’t been home to visit my folks on Thanksgiving for the past two years, and have really taken to enjoying spending the holiday with friends. With the insane cost of plane tickets to Burlington, VT these days, I stick to two trips home a year, once in the summer, and once at Christmas.

Follow me below the fold to read about our menu for the day. Everything we had turned out perfect!

Appetizers: We had a full spread of things to snack on while watching football and preparing the meal, including:

  • Chips with homemade salsa and cream cheese dip.
  • A spread of olives, pickles and hot peppers.
  • Bite-size prosciutto and cheese puff pastries
  • Ginger Snaps
  • Crab Dip

Of course while munching on these appetizers, we sampled 2 different bottles of white wine, 2 different bottles of red wine, and a bottle of champagne. Red Hook Winter Ale and Magic Hat were the beers of choice.

The main meal featured:

  • Turkey (duh)
  • Mashed Potatoes with black truffle butter
  • Cornbread and Chorizo stuffing (cooked in the bird)
  • Traditional white and wheat bread stuffing (cooked in the slow cooker)
  • Sweet Potato Casserole with pecan crust
  • Creamed Corn with fried onions
  • Green Bean Casserole, served over portabella mushrooms
  • Spinach salad with goat cheese
  • Cranberry Sauce

On to dessert, which featured:

  • Swedish Apple Pie
  • Pumpkin Cheesecake
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

My favorites were the mashed potatoes with black truffle butter, which turned out amazing, the sweet potato casserole, which was a slam dunk last year as well as this year, and the traditional stuffing, which cooked great and stayed nice and moist in the slow cooker.

Did everyone else have a good Thanksgiving? Any dishes or recipes that turned out particularly well?
